West Virginia Waterfalls

If you are looking for wild, forested, mountain country in the eastern United States, West Virginia is your destination. Rugged, yet beautiful mountains covered with a variety of trees found in few places on this planet. Unlike the west's Rockies, you can walk, frequently stroll, the many trails. Of course, as you approach the waterfalls, of which there are many, the trails can get steep, rocky and slippery. But, then, roses have thorns. Most of West Virginia's waterfalls are hard to reach unless you are prepared for a strenuous hike. We have not included them, here. Most of West Virginia's waterfalls are on private land and, therefore, not normally accessible. Of those on public lands, some, like those in the Monongahela National Forest, require you to make a deliberate effort to reach them. Others, like Cathedral Falls or Peach Tree Falls, only require a slight detour for folks passing through. In either case, they are all worth viewing.
